Bipartisan Resolution Continues Mounting Pressure Against EPA Power Grab

-Grassroots Group Lauds New Efforts to Bring Accountability to Regulatory Process-
WASHINGTON—The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today commended U.S. Representatives Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) and Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) for introducing H.J. Res. 76, which expresses disapproval under the Congressional Review Act for EPA’s effort to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act, something the Act was never designed to do.
“This latest effort to stop the EPA from manipulating the Clean Air Act adds to an already significant wave of legislation seeking sanity in the regulatory process,” said Americans for Prosperity Vice President for Policy Phil Kerpen. “We know Congress never intended the Clean Air Act to be used for greenhouse gases, and it is incumbent on Congress to make that point clear to the runaway executive agency.”
The disapproval resolution is companion legislation for a similar bill introduced by Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) to stop the regulations. The Congressional Review Act has the ability to overturn executive regulations. While the Senate has expedited procedures to bring the resolution to the floor for a vote, Speaker Pelosi has the power to block a vote in the House.
“The momentum is building against the EPA’s efforts to wreak havoc on our economy,” Kerpen concluded. “Congressional action is the only thing that can stop this runaway agency, and it’s good to see numerous legislators are getting the message.”
